Lampo di genio exhibition, dedicated to Philippe Halsman, has adopted systems for measuring and reducing CO2 emissions.

Lampo di genio, hosted at the Museum of Rome in Trastevere, was the first exhibition curated by the photographic agency Contrast that adopted measurements and metrics to develop Carbon Neutral strategies.

The exhibition dedicated to Philippe Halsman, hosted at the Museum of Rome in Trastevere, has ended.

The curators and organizers of the exhibition have chosen Neutralia company  to investigate how to contribute to launching a message in support of the climate emergency; thus a process has begun that will lead the exhibition to be #CarbonNeutral.

Neutralia has suggested a path that responds to a double objective:

• provide know-how and tools to the organizers to identify which are the major emission sources in terms of CO2eq, within the set-up process and the event, in order to be able to direct the next set-up towards virtuous processes;
• sensitize the public of the exhibition to the issues of sustainability, transferring precise and transparent communications in favor of a counter-culture of greenwashing.

The Carbon Footprint analysis conducted at the end of the exhibition provided a first overview of the environmental impact of the event.

The result of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculation underlined the success of the joint efforts of the organizers and the supply chain in pursuing sustainable practices. This result not only demonstrated, and demonstrates, the attention to global warming, but also the effectiveness of the strategies adopted to mitigate the impact of the activities connected to the exhibition.

The transport of graphic material has proven to be the main source of GHG emissions, accounting for almost 95% of the total Carbon Footprint.

This data today represents a clear opportunity for optimizing the logistical processes of future editions, through the adoption of even more sustainable transport solutions.

The second most significant source of GHG emissions was found to be the consumption of electricity drawn from the grid, accounting for approximately 5% of total emissions.

The strong point of the Carbon Footprint of the Halsman exhibition – a flash of genius hosted at the Museum of Rome in Trastevere was the reuse of materials recovered from previous exhibitions and reusable in future editions.

We remind you that this project is part of a broader horizon that sees Contrasto commit to contributing to sustainable development.

From this perspective, starting from the next edition of Mostra Halsman, scheduled for June 2024 at Palazzo Reale in Milan, we intend to prepare a monitoring plan for data collection characterized by a greater degree of detail. In this way, organizers will be able to keep the system active and increasingly implement it, to make it a useful tool in environmental development strategies and for the identification of technically efficient and feasible processes.

Furthermore, the next edition of the exhibition inaugurated on 14 June will see the commitment to reusing graphic and advertising materials consolidated, further extending their life cycle, according to the principles of the circular economy.

Finally, there is the objective of actively involving visitors to the exhibition so as to refine emissions reporting and spread awareness regarding environmental and social sustainability issues.
